Gargan Confident Ahead of Tampa Bay Derby
Trainer Danny Gargan believes his colt Talkin can deliver a strong performance in the Grade 3 $400,000 Tampa Bay Derby on Saturday. The race offers important Kentucky Derby qualifying points to the top five finishers.
Talkin Looking to Bounce Back
Talkin began his career with a win at Saratoga and later finished second in the Grade 1 Champagne Stakes at Belmont. However, he finished ninth in the Grade 2 Remsen Stakes at Aqueduct after a difficult trip from a wide post position.
Training Well for the Big Race
After the Remsen Stakes, Talkin was given a short break before returning to training at Palm Meadows Training Center in South Florida. Gargan says the colt has improved steadily and is ready to run well.
Strong Competition in the Race
Talkin will face several rivals in the Tampa Bay Derby, including the race favorite Further Ado. Jockey Joel Rosario will ride Talkin from Post 2.
Festival Day at Tampa Bay Downs
The Tampa Bay Derby is the highlight of a major race card featuring five stakes races at Tampa Bay Downs. The race is scheduled to start at 5:35 PM.
